And I thought it was going to be a boring night at home: Elephant is not exactly the best choice of a movie to watch on a Friday night when you have to be up early on a Saturday morning. If I do get to sleep any time soon, I'm suspecting a nightmare or two, something that rarely happens to me when I watch a movie or read a book before bed.
It's very well done with incredible cinematography and visual motifs. Characters are built in short close ups and by using lots of "show don't tell" story telling. While the actors are almost all teenagers, the performances are solid. It's also a very short film at 80 minutes, with tension being built throughout. But it's also rather horrifying and probably even a poorer viewing choice if you have high school-aged children. Labels: movies

I promise to remember you, the little people: The comments have been cryptic and they're going to stay that way, at least publicly. But I know more than a few of you have picked up on me dropping hints about making Blood & Volume into a movie.
For the record, no deals have been signed and there are no guarantees. A producer is interested and wants to generate more interest (which means the book release party may or may not be even more interesting than it would've been even if it was "just" a book release party). The idea now is to attach a big name actor to it and, failing that, look into finding investors to go the indie route. It would be a long, complex process if I decide to go forward, and as is often the case in creative fields, a process that is rife with potential disappointment.
This is the side of the business they don't teach you in writing school, and it's the side of the business I'm going to have to learn through trial and error. But let's be honest: at one point I didn't really know jack about book publishing, and that seems to have gone well. So just when I thought I was sick of Blood & Volume and ready to put it to bed, I'm starting to let myself get caught up in the little daydreams of seeing "Based on the book by Dave Copeland" on the screen at my local cineplex.
In other words, I've come this far. Why not take a shot at the title?Labels: bloodandvolume, life, movies

So let me get this straight: A guy loses a video game fight and wants to beat up an old man? Rocky Balboa looks like it may be bad enough to be worth seeing.
A slight tangent: I saw "For Your Consideration" yesterday. When did Christopher Guest become unfunny? There was, however, a somewhat amusing Ricky Gervais cameo.
And speaking of Gervais, he's interviewed over at Wired. He talks mostly about video games and gadgets:
"I was talking to Joel Cerner when I was in L.A. recently and we were both on our cells. And then it cut out and he had to call me from a landline. And then I had to get on a landline. And I said, "This doesn't happen on 24, does it?" Jack Bauer never gets on a chair and says, "Can you hear me now?" So I'm annoyed when things aren't like they are in the future in film." Another reason to like Borat: Because he gives us celebrity gossip. Pamela Anderson's scene in the movie apparently led to her split with Kid Rock after just four months:
Her friend tells Page Six, "Bob started screaming at Pam, saying she had humiliated herself and telling her, 'You're nothing but a whore! You're a slut! How could you do that movie?' - in front of everyone. It was very embarrassing. You can take the kids out of the trailer park, but....Labels: gossip, movies
